TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor-elect Anies Baswedan issued a statement regarding his plans to use the North Jakarta reclamation project that has been completed for the public interest.
“What has already been built will be intended for the public interest,” Anies said Tuesday, May 16.
According to Anies, the reclaimed land can be managed by provincial government or any other government levels. However, he reminded that it must benefit the people, such as for constructing public facilities.
The former Education Minister gave an example of public facilities intended to accommodate sport and cultural related activities. He reminded people about his campaign promise regarding a beach in Jakarta exclusively intended as a vacation spot.
The discussion about reclamation will be conducted by his team led by former Energy Minister Sudirman Said. The team plans to invite a number of stakeholders to discuss and accommodate the plans and suggestions regarding the management of the island.
The provincial government is currently demanding the 15 percent added contribution from reclamation project developers, which he says will also be discussed by the team.
