TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Asian Development Bank (ADB) holds its 50th annual meeting in Yokohama, Japan. The series of meetings takes place between May 4 and 7, attended by some 5,000 delegates, including Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
Sri Mulyani wants the ADB to be more responsive to member countries' needs. Indonesia is one of the stakeholders in the international financial institution.
"In this meeting, we want the ADB to be more responsive to Indonesia's needs. Whether it is infrastructure, health, policy responses, and others," she said in Yokohama on Thursday.
Sri Mulyani also asks the ADB to work with other international financial institutions like the World Bank. That way, ADB's functions will become more effective, and member countries will not be burdened by administrative problems.
The ADB is headquartered in Manila, The Philippines. The bank was founded in 1966 with the goal of alleviating poverty in the Asia-Pacific through inclusive economic growth.
The organization is owned by 67 countries, 48 are from the Asia-Pacific region. In 2016, the ADB disbursed US$31.7 billion worth of financial aid to reduce poverty.
