TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police spokesperson Comr. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said that his institution has identified assailants of the acid attack against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan.
“We have bagged their names and we’ll take a follow up action,” Setyo told journalists in Jakarta on Sunday, April 30, 2017.
Setyo declined to provide details about the identities of the attackers. According to Setyo, revealing the names could provide the attackers a chance to run.
In response to a question whether the search of the attackers took a long time, Setyo said that it was not an easy job. The National Police, Setyo added, must verify information gathered by investigators before catching the attackers.
“At one it’s fast, but at another time it’s slow. It depends on the situation in the field,” Setyo explained.
Earlier in April, Novel was attacked by two unknown assailants when returning home from a mosque in North Jakarta. Novel suffered injuries around his eyes due to the attack.
Not long after the incident, police detained two individuals who allegedly attacked Novel. However, it was revealed later that they were Jakarta Police’s informants for grand theft auto cases.
