TEMPO.CO, Amsterdam - The Indonesian Muslim community gathered in the European Muslim Youth Union (PPME) of Al-Ikhlas has bought a building in Amsterdam that will be developed into the Indonesian Cultural Center.
The PPME of Al-Ikhlas organized the building to be used as a mosque named Al-Ikhlas, classrooms, offices, and workshop rooms.
“This moment had been eagerly awaited by the Indonesian community in Amsterdam and surrounding areas who have long wanted to have their own building to hold cultural and religious events,” PPME founder Muzayyin said as quoted by Ahlul Bayt News Agency on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.
The building was acquired several months ago with funds collected from members, sympathizers and an Indonesian donor, H. Anif. The mosque was inaugurated by Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin on Tuesday, March 28, 2017, on the sidelines of his visit to the country.
Minister Lukman was in the Netherlands to open an international conference titled Rethinking Indonesia’s Islam Nusantara at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, organized by the Indonesian Islamic Organization Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) of the Netherlands.
Attending the inauguration were Indonesian Ambassador to the Netherlands I Gusti Wesaka Puja, Indonesian Ambassador to Lebanon Ahmad Chozin Chumaidy, Indonesian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Agus Maftuh Abegebriel, Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria Safira Machrusah, and Indonesian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Husnan Fananie Bey.
