TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cirebon Energi Prasarana president director Heru Dewanto said the financial close of the Cirebon II steam power plant project is almost ready. The 1,000 MW power plant's financing agreement will be signed soon.
The Cirebon II is the company's second power plant developed after the 650-MW Cirebon I was built in 2012.
Cirebon II construction will be funded by a syndicated loan from Japanese and Korean banks with a value of US$2 billion. "75 percent from the loan and the rest is from equity," Heru said.
The project will be built on a land belonging to the Environment and Forestry Ministry in Kanci, Cirebon.
Heru said that the plant will require 3.2 million tons of annual coal supply—a lot higher than the first unit's 2.3 million tons annual consumption. "We will bring the coal from Kalimantan," Heru stated.
The Energy Ministry's office chief Eddy Iskandar Muda Nasution, said that Cirebon will have three units of power plants. The third unit will have a 650-MW capacity. "Everything will be done by privates using an independent power producer (IPP) scheme," Eddy explained.
