TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta gubernatorial candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok said he is prepared to face first debate tonight, which will be held by the General Election Commission (KPU) Jakarta at Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta.
“For the debate, I only improve my speaking skills, helped by my volunteers. After all, I had partaken in two debates,” Basuki said in Jakarta yesterday. Ahok explained that in previous unofficial debates he used too many words and often exceeded the time limit.
“I have a lot of ideas, especially if the question is too broad. I will, of course, remember what I have done. That’s why I also answer even if my time is up,” Ahok said.
Therefore, he claimed that he will choose his words wisely. “I will try not to exceed the time limit set by the organizer,” he added.
Ahok and his running mate Djarot Saiful Hidayat are endorsed by four parties: the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), the Functional Group (Golkar) Party, the National Democratic (Nasdem) Party and the People’s Consciousness (Hanura) Party.
Jakarta gubernatorial election campaign period is effective from October 28, 2016, to February 11, 2017. Election Day will fall on February 15, 2017.
Three gubernatorial and deputy gubernatorial candidate pairs will contend for residents’ votes in 2017 Jakarta election: candidates no. 1 Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni, candidates no. 2 Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat, and candidates no. 3 Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno.
