TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will supervise the 2017 simultaneous regional elections by launching the official wealth report (LHKPN) for regional head candidates.
KPK deputy chairman Alexander Marwata suggested that that an effective supervision of regional elections would involve public because they are well-informed about the quality of regional head candidates.
“Public will know whether a regional election is conducted transparently or not, because they are involved in it,” Alexander told Tempo on Friday, September 23, 2016.
Alex called on public to report irregularities they might find during the simultaneous regional elections to the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) or law enforcers.
KPK chairman Saut Situmorang said that his institution had established cooperation with Bawaslu in relation to the law on the simultaneous regional elections. Saut revealed that the law contains criminal sanctions for money politics. He hopes that the integrity of the 2017 regional elections will be maintained without involving any kind of transactions.
“Without having prejudice to candidates and the dynamic of politics, [Money politics] concerns the KPK,” Saut said.
