TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is not only a threat in the real world, but also in the cyber world. Head of the National Security Agency (NSA) Admiral Mike Rogers said that ISIS movement and ability in virtual world were massive and untraceable.
Rogers added that ISIS movement in social media was highly effective compared to other militant groups. He claimed that Twitter was the media platform used the most by ISIS as there was no trace of ISIS using YouTube and Facebook.
In order to monitor cyber terrorism, Rogers expected United States Cyber Command to hire at least 6,200 cyber security employees by 2016. Rogers also urged international cooperation to beef up global cyber security in terms of governance, business, and industry.
In the last couple of months, ISIS began actively involved in the Internet, spreading footage of Westerners' beheadings and threats. The Iraq-based militants are also known for recruiting young jihadists online.
