TEMPO.CO, Bogor - The construction of skyscrapers around the Bogor Botanical Garden staretd to get out of control, making the once vast and historical garden to lose its beauty.
Researchers from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) suggested that the Bogor city administration should restore order and help to limit the construction of buildings around the garden area. "The existence of the Bogor Botanical Garden is threatened by construction projects on its surroundings. In terms of landscape, [the construction projects] is not right because it surrounds the [beautiful park] with tall buildings," said Hadi Susilo Arifin, Head of Landscape Management Division at the Architecture Department of IPB.
Susilo said that Bogor city administration should copy Japan's policy on maintaining the scenery of Mount Fuji, which remains visible without being blocked by skyscrapers. "Bogor has Mount Salak, which has the smiliar scenery [with Mount Fuji in Japan]. Unfortunately, some parts of Mount Salak is not visible, blocked by buildings," he said.
He explained that Japanese authority is willing to purchase a number of land in order to maintain the beauty of the iconic Mount Fuji. "Construction in and around conservation site [should be] forbidden," Susilo said.
