TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The University of Indonesia (UI) Depok grabbed second in the annual International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Moot Court Competition between law faculty students from 26 Indonesian universities.
Head of Delegation for Indonesia and Timor Leste - International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Alexandre Faite said the two finalists in the competition were Parahyangan University (Unpar) Bandung and UI.
“Based on our evaluation, Unpar came first while UI took runner-up with a close score between the two,” said Alexandre in a telephone interview today. The competition this year saw Unpar as the host university of the 13th event.
The competition is not to find the best in the field but to help university students understand the International Humanitarian Law where students are pushed to train their research, writing, and legal advocacy skills on humanitarian effects of armed conflicts and other violent issues.
“When that happens, they can take Indonesia or the world to a more prosperous, dignified, and humane state,” said Alexandre.
