TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) commissioner Hardly Stefano said his institution assured no campaign advertisement has aired on television and radio stations thus far.
“All TV and radio stations are clear [from campaign ads],” said Hardly at Four Point Hotel, Central Jakarta, Friday, Oct 19.
According to Article 276 of Law No. 7/2017 on the general election, the campaign period on print and electronic media starts 21 days before the voting day.
The Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) held today, Oct 19, a task force meeting related to the monitoring of media advertisements along with KPI, the Press Council, and the General Election Commission (KPU).

The meeting was convened to canvass the technical guidelines on campaigning in the media. “We are currently drafting the technical guidelines to control commercials and other things besides commercials that existed in the media that involved election participants," said Mochammad Afifuddin, the commissioner of Bawaslu.
Afif explained after the technical guidelines were completed, the institutions under the task force would disseminate this information. “KPI will monitor the ads based on the regulations on broadcasting media, while the Press Council on journalistic ethics,” he added.
The technical guidelines of campaign commercials in mass media was targeted to complete within a week. “These [guidelines] seek to determine whether an ad is allowed of prohibited," he said.
