TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - General Election Commission (KPU) stated that President Joko Widodo or Jokowi should not use the Presidential Palace for the presidential election campaign.
It was stated by the Head of the KPU Technical Bureau Nur Syarifah, after holding a meeting with the Presidential Secretariat, the President’s Military Secretary, the Commander of the Presidential Security Forces, and the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta.
“The point is that the Presidential Palace is part of state facilities that cannot be used for candidacy,” he said, Monday, September 24.
According to Nur, Jokowi can still use state facilities such as escort, health, and protocol. He can still use the official vehicles such as presidential cars or aircraft with security consideration.
“Because the presidential vehicle has a special specification for security. As long as it is part of the security, then it is the right of the president to get such facilities,” he said.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono said he would continue to coordinate with the KPU so there would be no state facilities accidentally used for Jokowi`s campaign. “Oh, yeah, sure,” he said.
