Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan, give press conference after meeting with Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi in City Hall, Jakarta, Dec. 4, Tempo/Rio Maldini Burhan Nibras

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Responding to former East Jakarta Mayor Bambang Musyawardana’s complaint, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that he personally contacted each and every mayor and regent that he reshuffled in July 5.

Ex-Mayor Bambang claims that Anies Baswedan had informed him about the reshuffle merely through a Whatsapp chat. Similar to Bambang, former West Jakarta Mayor Anas Effendi also stated that Anies Baswedan had contacted him upon the reshuffle through a phone call just one day before the inauguration of the new city officials on July 4.

Anas recalled that the phone number that the Jakarta Governor used was not listed in his mobile phone. “The governor said ‘This is Anies Baswedan’,” Anas recalled in an interview yesterday.

The telephone call, according to Anas, was to inform of a reshuffle in the Jakarta Provincial Government that would take place the following day, and that every mayor including Anas will be replaced. He further said that Anies Baswedan also thanked the mayors for their services throughout the years.

In a separate occasion, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that he individually called every regent and mayor that was set to be sacked to accelerate the transition time.
