TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - In the wake of entering the fourth industrial revolution, President Joko `Jokowi` Widodo advised small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to evolve their businesses by continuously innovating.
The innovation the president mentioned during the East Java Expo Surabaya was mostly about means of cashless payment. President Jokowi views that the people have started to accept such alternative.
“People can conduct payments anywhere with the help of smartphones and other gadgets,” said the president on Friday, June 22.
He gave an example of China's people that use Alipay as a means of transaction in purchasing an item. Jokowi felt that those tendencies are starting to emerge in Indonesia and said that he is getting used to buying food cashless.
“I, myself can order a satay without having to be present at the restaurant. Take the services of Go Food for example; in half an hour after we ordered, the food would arrive at my home,” said Jokowi.
He further urged the Expo audiences to present and promote goods online and seriously consider to package items in the right way that can complement the item inside the package.
Jokowi hopes that the world’s economic and technological change can be quickly anticipated by Indonesia’s business sector, which includes SMEs. He also said that the central government is currently in the process of introducing a permit-related regulation that can later shorten the time for businesses to acquire permits.
