TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a magnitude of 4.6 quakes struck the west coast of Lampung today, June 6 at around 06:00 local times.
BMKG acting head Rahmat Triyono said the quake located at 6.21 south latitude and 103.56 east longitude, at the sea of 120 km south to Liwa city, Lampung, at a depth of 63 km.
“The final record showed at 06:51 with 4.8 magnitudes,” said Rahmat in a written statement today.
Rahmat stated the quake was at the middle level caused by subduction of the Indo-Australian plate under the Eurasian plate which occurred precisely in the Megathrust zone on the Indian Sumudera Plate.
Based on public’s report, Rahmat added, the quake intensity felt noticeably in Semaka II SIG-BMKG (IV MMI) at Liwa, Bangkunat south coast, and Wonosobo Lampung II SIG-BMKG (II-II MMI). No report of damages have been received, he added.
“There are no signs of a potential tsunami due to the quake,” he underlined.
Furthermore, there was no aftershock following as of 06:51 local times. “Thus BMKG appealed to the public to remain calm,” Rahmat said.
