TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - By the month of Ramadan, one of the things that people often worry about is the increase in the price of basic food, such as chicken meat and eggs. It occurred in Palmerah Market, South Jakarta.
Wawan, one of the traders in Palmerah Market, said the price of chicken eggs per kilogram now reaches Rp27,000. Previously, it was Rp23,000 per kilogram.
"For five days, the price has increased, because of the fasting month," Wawan on Saturday, May 12.
Heri, another trader in different store also set the same price for a chicken egg. "Same for all, Rp27,000 per kilogram," said Heri.
Meanwhile, in the market located on Jalan Duren Tiga Selatan, the price of chicken meat also increased. Dedi, one of the traders, said it has increased from Rp39,000 to Rp42,000 per kilogram. The increase occurred since today. In the Deppen Market, Depok, the price of chicken meat also increased to Rp4,000.
"Previously from Rp38,000 to Rp42,000 per kilogram," said Niniek, one of the customers in the Deppen Market.
Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita guarantees the stock of foodstuffs is safe before Ramadan, for example, the stock of rice.
"I can tell you that all the rice available in Bureau of Logistics will enter the market, then what about the stock? The harvest will soon arrive so that it will be a new stockpile, so we do not have to worry," he said.
The government anticipates early avoiding the increasing food prices ahead of the fasting month (Ramadan) by preparing a stock of commodities.
"The preparation is that we prepare stocks of rice, onions, chili, meat, eggs, chickens," said Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman met in Jakarta on Friday, March 16.
