Ride-hailing Drivers Fall in with Ministry`s Planned Regulation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian online transport service association [PPTJDI] chairman Igun Wicaksono has agreed with the Transportation Ministry’s plans to create a regulation that oversees online ride-hailing companies.
“It can clarify the rules that govern the relationship between ride-hailing companies and its partners,” said Igun today.
Reports show that the Transportation Ministry is preparing a regulation that will eventually become the legal entity for the government to urge online ride-hailing companies to change their status into transportation companies. The new rule will eliminate the pros and cons shrouding online transportation.

Igun hopes that the plan could be the early step in making a clear policy for every stakeholder, which includes online ride-hailing partners or drivers. However, Igun also expects that the regulation will not hinder the drivers further.
“Such as conventional transportation services that require a yellow license plate,” said Igun.
Previously, the Transportation Ministry introduced Transportation Minister Regulation No108/2017 that regulates purely on the transportation aspect. Meanwhile, ride-hailing application companies have yet to be affected by the regulation.
