TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s women’s singles shuttler Gregoria Mariska has won BWF World Junior Badminton Championship after beating her Chinese counterpart Han Yue 21-13, 13-21, 24-22 in Sunday’s final in Yogyakarta.
Gregoria Mariska knew that it was her last chance to win a junior championship title. “I didn’t want to waste it. I’m very pleased to finally becoming a champion,” she said.
In the match that lasted 64 minutes, Gregoria dominated the first game. Fifth seed Yue, however, changed her playing pattern, stretching the match into the third game.
The points were tight in the third game, particularly in the dying stages. They outscored each other before Yue’s return shuttle went out of bounds, helping Gregoria to win the match.
Aside from Badminton women’s singles title by Gregoria Mariska, Indonesia also won the mixed doubles title through Rinov Rivaldy and Pitha Haningtyas Mentary who beat their compatriots Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Siti Fadhia Silva Ramadhanti 21-23, 21-15, 21-18.
