TEMPO.CO, Madiun - Steam boiler of Pagotan Sugar Mill (PG) in Madiun Regency, East Java, exploded on Friday evening, July 21, and three employees were injured. Pagotan Sugar Mill (PG) is owned by state-owned plantation firm PT Perkebunan Nusantara (PTPN) XI.
The three victims are Saudi from Uteran village, Lutfi Zaki Jauhari (40) from Jetis village, Dagangan district and Heri Subiantaro (37) from Jatisari, Geger district.
A witness who is also an employee in Pagotan Sugar Mill, Dar, said that he heard a loud explosion sound from the mill. "Last night, when I was clocking in for the evening shift, I heard a loud explosion sound. And then I tried to find the source of the explosion, turned out the steam boiler exploded," he recounted.
Afterward, he called other employees and found three of his co-workers suffering from serious burns. They were immediately brought to dr. Soedono Madiun General Hospital and Dolopo General Hospital in Madiun Regency.
Geger Police chief AKP Sumantri could not yet confirm the cause of the explosion. The authorities have put up police line on the scene.
