TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - At least 16 fishing boats docked along Juwana River stream, Pati Regency, Central Java caught fire on Saturday (15/7).
As a result, all the boats were severely damaged since there was no attempt of extinguishing the fire. A boat operator, Rohim, said on Saturday (15/7) that the incident began when one of the boats was repaired and welding was done in the engine room.
At around 1:15 in the afternoon, the boat suddenly caught fire and the fire spread to other boats docked nearby. There were a lot of boats in different sizes docked at the scene.
"After learning about the fire, I immediately moved the boat that I usually operate to a safer place," he said.
Because of the incident, he continued, seven people got injured since other nearby boats were apparently being repaired. Until now, he said the burned boats have not been put down because of the terrain. Amat, a boat owner, said that the loss will be substantial since one boat is worth around Rp 8 billion.
