TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Reports on the presence of marijuana-infused liquid electronic cigarette, also known as vape, prompted a police investigation on vape stores around the capital.
"We are immediately investigating [the report]," said Vivick Tjangkung, Chief of Narcotics Division of the South Jakarta Police on Tuesday, March 21, 2017.
Vivick asserted that people that the distribution of marijuana-infused vape is still very limited. "The buyers know that some stores sell marijuana-infused liquid, so there's no code [for the product]," Vivick said.
Vivick added that there is also a possibility that marijuana-infused vape liquids are being traded openly in vape stores in Jakarta. "Especially in South Jakarta," Vivick stated.
The case was first discovered following an arrest on a drug dealer known as AA (20) in Kampung Kandang, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta on Friday, March 17, 2017.
"We received reports from local residents, and immediately took follow-up actions," Vivick said.
During the arrest, Police confiscated eight packs of tobacco mixed with narcotics, 44 bottles of vape liquid, and nine bottles of vape liquid containing narcotic substances.
Based on AA's testimony, the goods were originated from his friend known as Bangor.
