TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Customs and Excise Heru Pambudi expressed his support for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate the alleged bribery involving Constitutional Judge Patrialis Akbar. Heru said that KPK investigators had requested him to provide data, information, and documents related to import activities.
"KPK investigation team visited the Directorate General of Customs and Excise office to coordinate their investigation on bribery allegations involving an importer and a constitutional judge," Heru said in a press release on Monday, March 6, 2017.
The Finance Ministry is currently investigating alleged cartel practices on several food products, including beef. Last week, the Directorate General of Tax, Directorate General of Customs and Excise, and the Commission on the Supervision of Business Competition (KPPU) signed an agreement on information exchange related to cartel practices. The government and the KPPU also established cooperation on tax and business competition compliance improvement.
Heru expected that the eradication of cartel practices can help to reduce commodity prices to a more affordable level.
"So in the long run, people can purchase quality products with cheap prices, businesses can have equal chances in doing business, and Indonesia can offer healthy business competition climate," Heru stated.
