TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continues the investigation into and looking for new suspects in the Hambalang Sports Center graft case. The KPK deputy chief said that the KPK is likely to name new suspects. According to him, investigators will further study the case after naming Andi “Choel” Zulkanaen Mallarangeng as a suspect.
“After previous questionings, it may not stop with (Choel), more will be questioned,” Saut said at the KPK.
According to Saut, the KPK investigators will keep collecting new evidence.
After launching an investigation in 2012, the KPK continue to develop Hambalang graft case. On February 6, the KPK arrested Choel, who had been named as a suspect since December 2015. The younger brother of former sports and youth minister Andi Alfian Mallarangeng is alleged to have misused his authority to benefit himself, others or corporations in the sports center project fiscal year 2010-2012 located in Bogor, West Java.
Choel had said that he had expected to be detained by the KPK. “Thank God, I will be detained. I have long been waiting for it,” he said after being named the KPK detainee.
The KPK had earlier nabbed Andi Mallarangeng and former sports minister official Deddy Kusdinar.
Andi has been sentenced to 4 years in jail and fined Rp200 million, with a subsidiary sentence of 2 months in jail. The Democratic Party politician has been found guilty of receiving US$550,000 from the Hambalang project partner PT Adhi Karya. The money was received via Choel.
