TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The West Java Police questioned Islamic Defender Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Syihab on Monday, February 13, 2017. Rizieq was probed as a suspect in relation to an alleged defamation of state symbol Pancasila and first President Soekarno.
For more than 8 hours, West Java Police's investigators grilled Rizieq with 36 questions related to the case.
"Today I answered 36 questions related to a thesis entitled the Impact of Pancasila on the Implementation of the Islamic Law in Indonesia," Rizieq said after the questioning on Monday, February 13, 2017.
Rizieq revealed that the questions were generally related to the history of Pancasila and the correlation between the state ideology and the implementation of the Islamic Law in the country.
"I scientifically proved [the correlation] by writing a thesis. It turns out that Pancasila is not against Islam, and it welcomes the implementation of religious law, as long as it is constitutionally legal," Rizieq explained.
West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus said Rizieq's questioning as a suspect of Pancasila defamation case is not over yet, as the investigation is still ongoing.
"Based on the investigation, there are several witnesses to be presented by Rizieq Syihab's team. They will present expert witnesses as Rizieq’s a de charge witnesses, and we're still waiting for the names," Yusri said.
