TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - East Java Deputy Governor Saifullah Yusuf said the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) Surabaya Auto Show 2016 is expected to boost national economy, particularly East Java’s auto industry.
“The expo is expected to increase employment,” the Deputy Governor said Wednesday during the opening of GIIAS Surabaya Auto Show at Grand City Convex Surabaya.
Deputy Governor Saiful, also known as Gus Ipul, is hopeful that the use of domestic component level in auto industry will continue to increase. “We are grateful for the ever-increasing use of domestic components in local products, some even reach 95 percent,” he said.
Gus Ipul said that there had been 81,944 units of new vehicles as of August in East Java. It fell by 2.10 percent year-on-year from 83,699 units of new vehicles. It is also lower compared to that of the same period in 2014 of 96,190 units of new vehicles or down by 14.81 percent.
GIIAS is held from September 28 to Otober 2, 2016 at Grand City Convex Exhibition Hall in Surabaya. The event is participated by 13 brand holder agents (APM) in Indonesia, which features 11 passenger cars, namely Daihatsu, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Renault, Suzuki and Toyota as well as two commercial cars participant: Isuzu and Mitsubishi Fuso.
