TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - CEO of Fenox Venture Capital Anis Uzzaman said Indonesia has the potential to become Asia’s biggest startup ecosystem similar to Silicon Valley in the United States.
“I won’t be surprised if within three to five years Indonesia becomes Asia’s Silicon Valley,” Anis said Tuesday in Jakarta after the press conference of Indonesia Startup World Cup, as quoted by Antara news agency.
He said that Indonesia has seen a growing number of startups. Indonesian startups have also been successful and gained popularity, such as Go-Jek, Tokopedia and Traveloka.
He sees that sustained encouragement and support from the Indonesian government are needed to develop startups.
In addition, internet’s infrastructure development carried out by the government is positive for startup growth.
According to him, one of the impediments to realizing Indonesia’s dream of becoming Asia’s best startup ecosystem is the lack of lending companies. “I believe it needs to be addressed,” he noted.
