TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) will build a hospital in Rakhine, Myanmar, as a humanitarian mission to bring peace among Muslims and Buddhists in Myanmar.
“The hospital is a collaboration between Indonesian Muslims and Indonesian Buddhist representatives,” MER-C Presidium Sarbini Abdul Murad said Monday, June 13, 2016 after meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla in the Vice President’s Office in Jakarta.
Sarbini claimed his side has purchased land for the hospital. The meeting with Walubi will be set-up in the next 1-2 days, and will discuss the hospital’s technical development which is estimated to cost Rp30 billion.
Rakhine is a state in Myanmar where the conflict location of religious backgrounds between Rakhine Buddhist and Rohingya Muslims take place. The conflict made Rohingya Muslims expelled from their settlement and seek asylum in other countries.
MER-C expects the hospital’s development will carry an important message that the two religion can work together. “The hospital in Rakhine is the cooperation result between Muslims and Buddhist. This is a good model,” said Sarbini. VP Jusuf Kalla appreciates the plan to develop the hospital.
