TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jessica Kumala Wongso, the suspect of alleged murder of Wayan Mirna Salihin by pouring her coffee with cyanide, will be set free because police are yet to complete her dossier (P21). Jakarta Metro Police will set her free if the dossier is still incomplete on May 28, when her detention period ends.
Jakarta Police Community Relations Chief Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono said police will set Jessica free by the operation of law. Because, the police are obliged to do so if the dossier is still incomplete during 120 days of detention period, he said. However, Jessica’s suspect status will remain, he added.
Awi has confirmed that Mirna’s murder case is still under investigation and police will make evaluation. “We will continue to coordinate with the general prosecutors. The prosecutors might have also been considering and examining the completeness [of the dossier],” Awi told a press conference yesterday at Jakarta Metro Police.
Awi said investigators are convinced that the evidence are sufficient and only need to be completed. Therefore, he considered the fact that Jessica’s dossier had been returned for the fourth time as normal.
On Tuesday, Jessica’s dossier was returned by Jakarta High Prosecutor Office for the fourth time due to lack of sufficient evidence. The dossier, however, has been completed and handed back to the prosecutors on Wednesday.
