TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian F1 racer Rio Haryanto management said that gathering funds through short message services (SMS) can still be considered affective. "We haven't received reports in relation to the SMS support. But, [the program] is good. The program was initiated by the Youth and Sports Ministry," said Indah Pennywati, mother and manager of Rio Haryanto as quoted by Antara on Monday, April 25, 2016.
However, Indah admitted that the program was only limited to several social media website and is not yet massive. "Later, there will be a massive SMS from all cellular operators to all users. Anyone who wanted to support Rio can just reply to the SMS," Indah said.
Indah added that Rio's management attempted to collect funds from selling souvenirs, although the results were not significant. "It's just additional. The most effective support came from sponsors, either private companies or state-owned companies, even from the government," Indah said.
Nevertheless, Indah said that Rio's management will continue to take steps to gather funds to cover for their deficit to Manor Racing Team.
