TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - In a bid to attract more investors, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has instructed immediate realization of Special Economic Zones that have been announced by the government.

During a limited cabinet meeting that discussed the management of free trade zone in Batam, Bintan, Sabang and Karimun, President Jokowi also said that special economic zones could boost economic growth in those regions.

"I hope we can immediately realize special economic zones. We have investment, flow of capital that come to the country, flows of money to the regions, and we hope there will be FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) to move economy in the regions,” Jokowi said before meeting on Friday (4/12).

For the record, in the sixth economic policy package, the government named eight special economic zones, namely: Tanjung Lesung in Banten, Tanjung Api-api in South Sumatra, Sei Mangke in North Sumatra, Palu in Central Sulawesi, Bitung in North Sulawesi, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, Morotai in North Maluku and Maloy Batuta Trans Kalimantan in East Kalimantan.
