TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A teacher Iwa Nirwana and a team of students from vocational school SMKN 8 bandung has invented a device to fight off motorbike robbers which locally known as begal. The device, called PIN 01 (Nirwasan Innovative Product), is operable through Android phones and is applicable for cars.
PIN 01 is capable of both remotely shutting down and turning on the engine on a motorbike. This will help people to shut down engine in a stolen motorbike. The device is connectable to smartphone through Bluetooth, Wi Fi, or GPRS.
“If the engine is shut down, the robber would not be able to take it with them except if they want to transport it on a vehicle,” said 35-year-old Iwa told Tempo when met at the school on Friday, October 16.
A test on the device shows that it turns off motorbike’s engine from up to 100-meter distance using Bluetooth and 500 meters using Wi Fi. Iwa claimed that his invention is better than remote controllers that are already available in the market, especially because it is controlled through phone-based application. For example, the application can be further developed to have more features such as vehicle tracking and speed meter.
The prototype hardware part is installed on the vehicle and having novel book size. Iwa said that he wants to make the size smaller in the future.
