TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo is pessimistic about this year's bank credit growth target of 15-17 percent. He said the target would be difficult to meet as there have been monthly corrections.
In April, credit growth rate reached 10.4 percent, down from March's 11.3 percent.
Agus hopes things will look up in the second half. An economic recovery is key to credit demand.
The government is planning to adjust the minimum loan-to-value (LTV) policy. In addition to that, Agus said, budget disbursements by the central and local governments can help raise credit demand.
Agus hopes that disbursed budgets can be allocated to villages and underdeveloped areas. "It will drive the economy and increase the demand for credit," said Agus Friday, June 19.
The LTV policy is scheduled to take effect next week. Agus said the focus of this policy is to increase public demand and eventually boost consumption—particularly for property and vehicles.
