TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Insp. Gen. Budi Waseso, Chief of the Police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) is considered to have made a breakthrough by Commission III of the House of Representatives. However, the DPR noted several cases handled by Bareskrim that resulted in controversies.
"We hope it will never happen again," said Commission III member Arsul Sani on Friday, May 8, 2015, in reference to the case related to the Corruption Eradication COmmission (KPK).
According to Arsul, the controversies arose from technical issues when investigators took legal actions such as arresting KPK officials. "Don't repeat any controversy. This likely only concerns technical issues," said Arsul.
Controversies occurred when the Police named several KPK officials and investigators as suspects, which is considered to be a criminalization attempt against KPK. One example of the controversy was the arrest of Novel Baswedan by Bareskrim for a case that was said to occurred in 2004.
However, Arsul asked Bareskrim to continue investigating the case despite the controversy. "Legal proceedings still have to continue," Arsul said.
