TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo confirmed that there will be no massive labor demonstration on May 1, 2015, or May Day. Jokowi, speaking in front of the press in Palembang, said that he has received assurance from labor union leaders during a meeting on Wednesday, April 29, 2015.
After inaugurating the construction of the Palembang-Indralaya toll road, Jokowi said that he had received information that some 150 thousand laborers will gather in front of the Presidential Palace under tight Police escort.
Jokowi also reminded that the commemoration of May Day should not be considered as a bad thing. Jokowi said that commemorating May Day is an expression of joy by laborers.
The President explained that during the meeting with labor union representatives on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, many continue to complaint about laborers' welfare. Jokowi asserted that the main thing is laborers demanded their rights to be fulfilled, including proper wage, transportation facilities, housing, pension, and health incentives.
