Indonesia, Myanmar, UNDP Discuss Partnership

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Representatives of Indonesian government, Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) held a meeting during the sidelines of the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) to discuss mutually beneficial partnership in the areas of economy, investment as well as enhancing people-to-people relationship and government officials' performance.
Underlining the importance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Capacity Building Partnership signed between Indonesia and Myanmar back in 2013, the representatives emphasized that the partnership have been carefully designed and rigorously reviewed to ensure that it would help both countries to achieve its development goals and national priorities.
In addition, the representatives noted that both countries have played a pivotal role in regional stability and security. Further, the representatives also stated that Indonesia and Myanmar share similar political and historical background and it is important to continue to learn from each other.
In relation to the UNDP, the representatives welcomed the organization's commitment to provide tailored, high-quality and timely development services to both countries.
The representatives also commended technical assistance provided by UNDP Indonesia and UNDP Myanmar, which has been ongoing since 2013, and admitted that it had played an important role in facilitating a series of knowledge exchanges of best practices and lessons learnt in the field of social interactions as well as women empowerment.
The UNDP has also agreed to continue giving support and facilitate sessions in knowledge sharing and learning between Indonesia and Myanmar in 2015.
