TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former junior attorney general for supervision Marwan Effendy passed away on Monday night, March 9, 2015 of a heart attack. The Attorney General’s Office (AGO)’s information and law division chief Tony Spontana said Marwan died at Prince Court Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 10:35 p.m. western Indonesia time or 11:35 p.m. local time.
“Because of a heart attack,” Tony told Tempo on Tuesday, March 10, 2015, adding he could not confirm yet as to when Marwan, who was born on August 13, 1953, would be laid to rest. “We are still waiting for further developments, his family has not decided yet,” he said.
Before appointed as junior attorney general for supervision, Marwan served as junior attorney general for special crimes. Marwan, an alumnus of Diponegoro University’s Law Faculty, was also an ex-chief of the AGO’s information and law division, head of the AGO’s education and training center, and head of the East Java Prosecutor’s Office.
Marwan, who was born in Lubuk Linggau, South Sumatra, began his career at the AGO in 1980. His career began to shine after he earned a doctorate degree from the Padjadjaran University in Bandung, West Java.
