TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chief Busyro Muqoddas viewed that President Joko Widodo’s Presidential Instruction (Inpres) on corruption prevention would violate the anti-corruption law.
“Is he [Jokowi] serious that he will issue the Inpres that violates the KPK law?” Busyro said on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.
As mandated by the law, Busyro added, the KPK worked not only to prevent corruption, but also to conduct coordination and supervision in tandem with other authorized institutions to eradicate corruption practices.
According to Busryo, the KPK is also authorized to run investigations into corruption cases, file charges against corruption crime acts and monitor state administration. Therefore, Busyro suggested Jokowi should drop the plans to issue the Inpres.
Earlier, Cabinet Secretary Andi Widjajanto said Jokowi would immediately issue a new Inpres on Corruption Eradication. Andi said the Inpres was aimed at fortifing law enforcement institutions—including the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), the National Police and the KPK—in the nation’s ongoing battle against corruption.
