TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said, said that he will issue a decision regarding the continuation of the Mahakam Block management as the contract, which was signed with Total EP, the oil and gas company that manages the block, will expire in March 2017.
"We are reviewing oil and gas block [contracts], including Mahakam Block, that will expire. There will be a decision soon," Sudirman told reporters on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.
He said that the continuation of the contract will involve domestic and foreign contractors. However, the minister added that national interest must still be prioritized. "But it doesn't mean that [oil and gas block management] has to be entirely given to Pertamina. The most important thing is the added-value," he said.
Naryanto Wagimin, acting director general for oil and gas at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, said that the management of the Mahakam Block can be conducted hand-in-hand by Pertamina and Total E&P Indonesie.
