TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia III (Pelindo III) says that it plans to commence the operation of the much-awaited Teluk Lamong Multipurpose Terminal in East Java in August, according to Antara News.
The Rp3.5 trillion (US$294 million) project, which is expected to ease congestion in the East Java hub of Tanjung Perak Port, has entered the last phase of development.
“We are only waiting for a supply of electricity from [state-run electricity company] PT PLN," PT Terminal Peti Teluk Lamong president director Prasetyadi said as quoted by Antara News.
He said that the new terminal was nearing 90 percent completion.
"We are aiming to accommodate 1.5 million twenty-foot equivalent containers in the first phase of development," Pelindo III spokesman Edi Priyanto added.
According to Prasetyadi, Teluk Lamong will cater to large ships while the old Tanjung Perak will handle containers from smaller ships.
Teluk Lamong will be constructed in four stages until 2030 with a total investment of Rp20 trillion.
In the future, the terminal will connect with Tanjung Perak Port via a monorail as well as have direct access to the Gresik-Surabaya toll road.
