TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Transjakarta bus drivers will receive certification on driving services in order to prevent accidents on the streets.

Pargaulan Butar-butar, Chief of Transjakarta management, said that there have been discussions with Transjakarta about the certification. "There will be standards for operators so that all [drivers] will have the same quality," he said on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.

Currently, the standards for a driver training program are being compiled as part of the certification procedure. "Trainers are still being chosen," he said.

With the new standards, the drivers are required to have a zero-tolerance policy towards accidents. Drivers would be punished and even fired if accidents, such as the one that involves Transjakarta buses and a Kopaja buses on Monday, occur.

On Monday, a Transjakarta bus coming from the diretion of Bank Indonesia crashed into a Kopaja bus that was stopping to drop off passengers, causing a pileup.
