TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is preparing a rule that will regulate the new rates of biomass and biogas electricity. Rida Mulyana, Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation, said the implementation of the new tariff is expected to encourage investors to build biomass and biogas power plants.
"We hope to launch the rule in the near future; before the presidential election," Rida said yesterday.
Regarding the amount of the new tariff, Rida was reluctant to explain in detail. She only said that the new tariffs will be around to Rp1,000 to Rp1,400 per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
To date, the utilization of biomass and biogas energy has reached 1,716 MW, but the available potential reaches 32 gigawatts. With the new regulation, the government is targeting to boost the utilization of biogas and biomass energy up to 75.5 MW.
