TEMPO.CO, Sleman - The Sleman regency government is planning to create 11 water reservoirs to meet the needs of water conservation areas. Currently, Sleman has only 14 water reservoirs, a number claimed insufficient. "[The percentage of] water conservation area in Sleman is only six percent, far from the required 30 percent," said Fauzan Darmadi, chief the energy division at the Sleman Water, Energy, and Mineral Resources Agency on Sunday, March 23, 2014.
Some of the new reservoirs will be located at the Wedomartani Village in Ngemplak, the Lojajar Village in Tempel, the Sidokarto Village in Godean, and the Wukirsari village in Cangkringan.
Each reservoir will have an average volume of 30,000 cubic meters and costs around Rp 3 billion. However, the reservoir in Wedomartani village will costs around Rp 8 billion due to region's sandy land texture.
The reservoirs will also be used for tourist sites, under the condition that there has to be a synchronization between the reservoirs' conservational and tourism purposes to prevent damages.
