TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There are 17 children from Samuel's Home Orphanage who have undergone medical examinations after a report of an alleged violence that was carried out by the orphanage's owner. Samuel Orphanage was accused to have allegedly exploited their orphans to work for money.
"They have had complete medical examinations for the alleged violence that was carried out by the orphanage's owner," said Arist Merdeka Sirait, the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA) Chairman, when contacted by Tempo on Saturday, March 1. He admitted that no one knows the examinations' results because it is the police's authority to investigate it.
Besides the examinations, he said, the Metro Jaya Police has also raided the crime scene (TKP), and secured evidence that is suspected of being used for physical violence, which consist of a belt and ceramic shards.
Arist has brought 12 children from an orphanage in Sector 6, Blok GC, Gading Serpong, Banten on Monday, February 24. Subsequently, he evacuated two female sick babies on Thursday evening, February 27. These actions were carried out after the commission received reports from residents around the orphanage, who saw the children from Samuel Orphanage were asking for money on the streets. "I received the report on February 11, and immediately investigated it, " said Arist.
