TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tana Toraja has been an exotic tourism destination favored by both domestic and foreign travelers. One of the interesting places for travelers to dig out the traditional culture of Tana Toraja is the Londa Cave cemetery.
The cemetery cave, which is open as a tourism destination, is located in Sandan Uai village, approximately 7 kilometers south of Rantepao Town in North Toraja regency, Sumatra, Indonesia. Once stepping on a land nearby the cave, some said that a mystical atmosphere will suddenly shroud the visitors.
On the walls along the cave, captivating wooden sculptures called tau-tau were lining inside a carved space on the cliffs' stones. The sculptures were dressed and represented the people who were buried in the cave.
To take a tour into the 100-meter deep cave, tourists can rent a lantern from the locals for Rp25,000. The locals are also offering their service as tour guides.
