TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Police was considered to be slow in dealing with the case of Fikri Dolasmantya Surya's death during the Village Volunteer Camp (KBD) that was held by the National Technology Institute (INT) on tourist spot Gua Cina Beach in Rowotrate, Malang, West Java.
The student who originated from Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara was found dead on Saturday, October 12, 2013, or one day before the camp ended. It was suspected that Fikri passed away due to physical abuse at the camp that was held since Wednesday, October 9, 2013.
A number of residents claimed that they had told about the cruel punishment that the junior student received from Fendem, a senior student who was assigned as a security guard, to two police officers who were patrolling at Gua Cina a week after the incident.
Local residents had told the authority how the victim was punished, but the police did not respond enthusiastically. The residents actually wanted the police to investigate further on the case because they did not want the Gua Cina image to be smeared. Gua Cina is known to be a beautiful tourist spot. However, the residents were worried that the location would not be considered safe, even though the case was not related to the locals' activities.
