TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finnish Ambassador to Indonesia Kai Sauer, stated that the Energy and Environment Partnership (EEP) is one of the biggest program his country had ever establish with Indonesia.
"The value [of the program] is four million Euros for four years, from 2011 to 2014," Sauer said after the EEP Annual Forum in Jakarta on Wednesday, November 27.
The Ambassador explained that Finland decided to choose Indonesia as a partner because Indonesia's economic growth and needs of energy continue to show improvements. In addition, Indonesia still relies heavily on fossil fuel to generate energy.
"Indonesia has a great potential of renewable energy," Sauer stated.
Sauer claimed that Finland's expertise in developing renewable energy such as biomass, will turn the EEP into a win-win project for both countries.
The Ambassador added that both Indonesia and Finland has the same goal of developing renewable energy.
"All of these programs can be the catalysts [to stimulate further development]," he said.
Currently, the EEP program funds have been allocated to 20 projects that consist of six research projects on economic, ecologic, and social feasibility for bioenergy investment, seven village-level demonstration projects, three industrial pilot projects, and four capacity building projects.
