TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Fisheries Product Processing and Marketing Association (AP5I) chairman, Thomas Darmawan, predicted that seaweed will dominate aquaculture product next year. "The percentage is high, it reached 41 percent last semester," he said yesterday.
Thomas explained, seaweed production last year reached 6.5 million tons or 50 percent of total production. Seaweed production is targeted to reach seven million tons this year. "Average production growth is 30 percent," he said.
Besides seaweed, other aquaculture products such as catfish, tilapia, milkfish, and shrimp will also experience high production growth. "But it still depends on climate and weather," concluded Thomas.
