TEMPO.CO, Somalia – Somalian pirates are known to be the fiercest at sea, causing dreadful fear to anyone passing their claimed territory. However, in a twist of reality, the notorious sea-raiders turned out to be fearing the American pop singer Britney Spears, especially her top hit songs.
Metro.co.uk reported that Rachel Owens, a naval officer sailing at the East Coast of Somalia, revealed that she and her team had been playing Britney Spears' "Oops! I Did It Again" and "Baby One More Time" in an attempt to keep the modern-day pirates away. Owens mentioned that the strong-built pirates apparently hate Western pop culture, causing them to keep their distance.
Piracy itself has been a major threat in the particular area. In 2011, 176 attacks against passing ships were recorded. In order to secure the dangerous water, 1,500 naval army personnel and 14 ships were deployed, completely equipped with Britney Spears' hits collection.
