TEMPO.CO, Pekalongan - The dry season never seems to have any affect on Curug Muncar village in Petungkriyono sub-district, Pekalongan district. When the people of Pekalongan were blazing in heat last Sunday, the residents of Curug Muncar village enjoyed the cool waters of the Curug Telagalumbu located in the village.
The waterfall, or curug as the locals call it, is behind the pine trees hills in East Pekalongan. The 25-meter tall waterfall is located around one kilometer from the residential area of Curug Muncar village. Residents have constructed pavement on the winding path leading towards Telagalumbu waterfall in order to make it a more comfortable journey for outsiders. From Pekalongan city, the journey to Petungkriyono sub-district takes around two and a half hours.
Casmidi, former village chief of Curug Muncar village, said the residents hope the Pekalongan administration willallocate funds to make Curug Telagalembu a new tourism destination in order to provide additional income for the majority of residents who are farmers.
Last year, Curug Muncar village received a grant of Rp209 million from the National Community Empowerment Program (PNPM), which was used to build a road and two bridges from the residential area to Telagalumbu.
Suntung, a villager, said that once in a while, nature-loving students or photographers visited Curug Telagalumbu.
"Now it’s still free of charge," he said. The residents will only apply a cover charge if the waterfall has a lot of visitors.
