TEMPO.CO, Depok - The existence of street children, homeless people and beggars in Depok continues to agitate the local community. As a result, Depok is scheduled to conduct intensive raids from September 15 for one month. So far, the city has arrested eight people.
The Depok administration has partnered with the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) to conduct these raids. These street children have violated Bylaw No. 16/2012 on public order.
Head of the Depok Social Service and Manpower Agency, Diah Sadiah, said these children roam the streets for various reasons. Some are from broken homes, while others were also forced to become beggars because of their financial condition.
"But this phenomena is extremely ironic, especially considering Depok has a ‘Child Friendly’ program," she said.
